“A reminder that the offices of Local 488 will be closed for the following days - December 24th, 25th, 28th, 31st , January 1st and will re-open January 4th.
Our Staff and Entertainment Committee would like to share this heartfelt story from Santa’s Anonymous to which we are proud to support year after year by giving back to those in need in our community. Through contributions like ours and countless volunteers, Santa’s Anonymous will provide over 20,000 less fortunate children with gifts this Christmas.
This year has brought unique challenges both on and off the jobsite and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our hard working, resilient membership for all that you do. We will get through this together as we always have.
Dear Local 488 ,
As a single mother of four, my mom always did the best that she could to provide us with the necessities of life and cushion the financial disadvantages we faced. Despite her best efforts, we learned that Christmas can be a time of tension and uncertainty for low-income families. Simply having the ability to give a gift is widely accepted as an expression of love, and at Christmastime the difference between families like ours and those who are more fortunate, becomes even more evident. Somehow, classmates always know, and when they make fun of kids who don’t have expensive clothes or all the new gadgets like they do, it hurts and contributes to low self-esteem.
The new toys we received from 630 CHED Santas Anonymous allowed my younger self to feel the same love, the same joy and the same feeling of belonging that other families and children do during Christmas. Because I felt included, I was able to focus on growing, exploring and discovering my potential. As a child, I believed that Santa Claus was real; as I grew older and understood more, I realized there was someone outside of my family who cared enough to help children just like me. The idea that you, and others like you, felt I was worthy of belonging helped me to achieve accomplishments I would never have thought possible, and inspired me to give back to this caring community.”
