Political Education Mandate as follows:
The Local Union 488 Political Education Committee (PAC) was established by the membership in 1986. The committee consists of six (6) union members elected or appointed for a three (3) year term in accordance with Article III, Clause 3.01 contained herein.
The United Association Constitution makes provision for a Political Education Committee. The Local Union 488 Political Education Committee functions are basically those provided for in the Constitution.
Funding for the Political Education Committee is provided for by the Local Union remitting to the Committee an assessment of twenty-five cents ($0.25) per member per month. This assessment is provided for by the members monthly dues.
The purpose and function of the Political Education Committee is to provide a political awareness to the members and their families and further, to provide political education through a public relations process that consists of interaction with other unions, various interest groups, organizations, individuals and the community.
The public relations process also provides information to the general public regarding the benefits of individuals having the right to belong to a Union and the benefits of the trade union movement to the community.
This political awareness and education consists of providing information to the members in respect to those who support our issues and concerns within the various levels of government and to provide information regarding those who oppose our concerns.
The Committee works with other interested groups and organizations in attempting to implement changes that are fair to union members and their families and to oppose those who attempt to implement regressive legislation.
