- What kind of a person do I need to be to enter the pipe trades?
You must first of all like to work with your mind and your hands. It helps a lot if you're the kind of person who gets personal satisfacion out of creating something physical. Our trades require skill at math. Most require a measure of physical strength and endurance.
Union construction work is TEAMwork. You need to be able to work well together with others to get a job done.
You MUST have a strong respect for your own personal safety, and for the safety of your workmates. Directly related to that, you must realize that most of our jobs require pre-access drug and alcohol testing before you are allowed on a site.
A lot of our industrial construction work is based in (pretty comfortable!) remote camps, so willingness to work away from home for periods of time is also an asset.
