Nothing is more important to us than maintaining, improving and upgrading our members’ skills.

We have built a brand new, 55,000 square-foot Training Centre at our Edmonton headquarters to expand on our existing training facilities.

Every year, more than 4,600 members take advantage of our skills training and upgrading programs and our weld practice facilities. An additional 300 to 400 members are training in a second or third trade.

We’re negotiating with the Province of Alberta for certification to deliver apprentice technical training programs for both members and non-members. The new Training Centre is capable of providing technical training to 1,500 full-time apprentices per year.

Local 488 makes self-improvement highly accessible for members. Almost all of our programs are no-or-low cost, and most are delivered during evenings and weekends. Video links enable us to provide top-quality training at remote locations.
